AUTERE – Amal’l

Finnish band Autere appear to gravitate to groovy melodic death metal on their debut album "Amal’l". A lot of the guitar rhythms have this triplet chunkier appeal that along with occasional off-time, progressive drumming makes for circular headphone, edge of your seat appeal. Think Arch Enemy, mid-period In Flames, and possibly a little bit of Machine Head meets Nevermore on "Circle of Kinetic Damage", the low-tuned shape shifter "Horizon", and pit-crusher "Bloodlands". Vocalist Anssi Rissa has a similar delivery to Phil Anselmo if taken through the Meshuggah blender – and this could be a plus or minus depending on your outlook.
9 songs in 33 minutes, decent material but not really something that hasn’t been heard hundreds of times from bigger bands before. As such, "Amal’l" will probably be relegated to the once in a blue moon category for listening.
