NUBIAN ROSE – Mental Revolution

The second album from Swedish hard rock band Nubian Rose is actually my first exposure to the band. "Mental Revolution" is a 10 song effort that has a lot of classic riffing that would be familiar to older Ozzy Osbourne fans and others that love a little bit of that energetic crunch along with the big, expressive range from Sofia Lilja Åkerlund. The marriage of old school hard rock with modern touches gives songs such as "Break Out" and "Illuminated Within" the best of both worlds, intertwining aspects of Sister Sin, Dokken, and maybe the long lost Saraya.
From cowbell accents and Dr. Feelgood lyrical references during "Tough Guys Don’t Dance" to an almost church hymn/ bluesy build up for the ballad "You Will Never Walk Alone", Nubian Rose offer the consumer the spectrum of arrangements and moods necessary to pull off a complete melodic hard rock record.
