CONVENT GUILT – Guns for Hire

CONVENT GUILT – Guns for Hire

This is a debut album from traditional heavy metal artists Convent Guilt – a four-piece from Sydney, Australia. "Guns for Hire" is an 8 song trek back into the glorious 70’s/80’s scene – twin guitars, steady, conventional drumming, and easy on the ears melodies. The tones are primal, the playing tailor made for those who miss AC/DC, early Riot, and others who inspired a lot of the NWOBHM or early American scene.

Bassist Ian won’t be considered a premiere power singer, he prefers to keep things in more of a middle range semi-shouting state, but the Dario/ Matt guitar parts capture the lion’s share of attention and hook admiration. "Perverse Altar" and the Judas Priest-esque "Convict at Arms" are two staples that reverberate long after these tracks end. Certain cuts even possess that up and at them punk charge, closer "Stockade" featuring a bluesy lead break that keeps the melody at hand amidst it’s blistering conclusion – while others have a cultural, Irish texture such as the acoustic oriented "They Took Her Away".

Decent but not groundbreaking, Convent Guilt should appease the 40-somethings looking for more rock and less thought.
