DEAKON – Miel

"Miel" by the Russian horde known as Deakon is a bit of an odd release. Well, maybe odd isn`t the proper term for it, but it`s certainly different and experimental in that it contains a single long track lasting for 50 minutes. The most proper description for this experiment of sorts would probably be something akin to minimalistic and monotonous black metal with trancelike qualities to it. If you can imagine the monotony of old VON taken to an extreme then you`re probably on the right path. There are very few variations to be found and they`re mostly pretty subtle. In a sense "Miel" attains an ambient-like aura and atmosphere even though the music is rooted in metal.
"Miel" is most certainly not for everbody and I must admit that there are times when it does absolutely nothing for me and other times when I`m somewhat hypnotized and drawn in by it. I`m not really sure how to rate it even, because how I perceive it very much depends on my mood. If monotony is your cup of urine then check this one out. It may be rewarding depending on perspective.
