Taiwanese guitarist Ango Chen formed this melodic metal band Holy Force with a trio of the best musicians in the neo-classical/ progressive realm: vocalist Mark Boals, bassist Mike LePond and drummer Kenny (Rhino) Earl. So people shouldn’t be surprised that these 11 main songs (supplemented with 3 intros or interludes) on “Holy Force” that you’ll get an up tempo melodic album with a guitar hero emphasis, not unlike Rob Rock’s latest ventures. Ango’s technique falls in line with Yngwie Malmsteen, older Akira Takasaki and Ritchie Blackmore – and musically the band run the gamut from grand, epic material such as “Seasons” to conventional faster power numbers like “We Are The Warriors” or the opening title cut.
When the right high caliber musicians get together, the output usually means a worthwhile listening experience. Those into melodic power metal with vocal acrobatics, strong riffing and a confident rhythm section will scream for Holy Force.
