PROSANCTUS INFERI – Pandemic Ululations of Vesperic Palpitation

This first full-length from Ohio maniacs Prosanctus Inferi is a festering pile of shit. But don’t worry, they intended it to sound that way! What we have on offer here is 13 tracks of black-edged death metal that bludgeon the senses and batter the emotions over 24 minutes.
The sound has that kind of nausea-inducing quality that Abscess and Autopsy do so well, but Prosanctus Inferi have taken to the next level and beyond. The fact that this album is only 24 minutes long is probably the only mercy you will get. You’d need a bucket beside you to puke into if the record was any longer. The music is fast, technical and heavy, bordering on grind in places. The riffs writhe and steam like entrails slashed from a cleric’s body and the drums hammer away at the last vestiges of sanity.
At almost every turn, Prosanctus Inferi confound expectation, making idiosyncratic choices that result in this being an original, highly stimulating offering. Unfortunately, some of the excellent chops get a little bit lost in the violent storm of blood, chaos and unpronounceable song titles that is “Pandemic Ululations of Vesperic Palpitation”. Unfortunately, because it means you have to listen to the album again in order to hear them, and believe me, that is not a pleasant experience!
