Coming out originally in 1985, the debut album from German melodic hard rock band Victory set the stage for a long, prosperous career for these gentlemen. Many today would know guitarist Tommy Newton from his production work and vocalist Charlie Huhn from his stints in Ted Nugent, Gary Moore and currently Foghat. Songs like the feisty “Gonna Be Trouble”, the Thin Lizzy meets southern rock-esque “The Hunter” and bluesy “Don’t Count On Me” had a lot in common with early Krokus and Y&T in terms of guitar infused riffs, Huhn’s rough and tumble delivery and just four on the floor hard rock ethics.
It’s nice to see major labels willingly passing off out of print records to labels like YesterRock who revere the classics and turn on a new generation to these veteran bands. This is definitely a case where the music outshines the controversial, eye grabbing cover.
