VEÉR – The Measure of Waste

“…every spring is the last.” Veér hail from Hungary. In contrast to most other East-European Black Metal acts, they do not sing nostalgic and epic songs about the beautiful snowy landscape. They celebrate ugliness.
Their album is very hard to get into and I admit that I still struggle. At time I notice some parts that strike a chord within me, but at most other times I am averted by the lack of melody. This is just so ugly music I can barely listen. Which is probably what Veér tried to achieve: The production is bass heavy, reminding me of the latest Mayhem output, and the vocals remain screeching in the middle range (interesting bass lines though).
While most Black Metal I listen to give me energy, Veér sucks it right out of me, and as of yet I can’t manage to turn the knife around. In time, “The Measure of Waste” might become a mainstay in my collection, but until then: 3/6.
