One of Bergen’s finest and most prominent exponents of genuinely inspired stoner rock is back with a thrilling new album that is bound to please fans of the band both old and new. We are of course talking about the mighty Kryptograf, i.e. the dynamic and tight quartet who churn out hard and fuzz-soaked rock that will take you right back to the late sixties and early seventies. Although their catchy and effective tunes owe a musical debt to Black Sabbath, Pentagram, Uriah Heep, Trouble, Saint Vitus, Blue cheer, and Hendrix just to list a few examples, the truth is that Kryptograf have carved out a style and identity of their own and are anything but derivative. Never have they sounded as hungry, focused, and enthusiastic as they do here, and the LP delivers the goods on so many levels and maintains its momentum from beginning to end. One could also argue that “From Below” and the majestic closer “The Gales” are the best and most atmospheric compositions ever conceived by the outfit. And how cool is that album artwork? Kryptonomicon is rough around the edges, vibrant, and utterly essential. You know what to do!
