ZAYD – interview

Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:

I’m Zayd, a solo rock and metal artist from Canada. My music is a mix of raw intensity and deep emotional storytelling, blending heavy riffs with introspective themes. My latest release is my debut EP, “Deceit and Desecrate.” This EP is a journey through betrayal, inner turmoil, and the battle between darkness and redemption. It explores themes of deception—whether from others or within ourselves—and the process of tearing down falsehoods to uncover the truth. Every track is a part of that journey, reflecting struggles with faith, love, and identity.

What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?

As a solo artist, the biggest challenge is wearing all the hats—writing, recording, marketing, content creation, and preparing for live performances. The industry is oversaturated, and standing out requires more than just great music. You have to constantly engage, build a brand, and create a movement around your sound. The hardest part is balancing artistry with the business side while keeping the passion alive.

When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?

In 2017, I met my guitar idol, Mark Tremonti (Creed, Alter Bridge), during a guitar clinic. I played my song “Father” for him, and he told me something I’ll never forget: “Let the world decide where this song belongs. Dont hold back.”That moment ignited my journey, making me realize that this wasn’t just a dream—it was a calling. Since then, I’ve been pushing forward, building a community around my music.

Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?

“Deceit and Desecrate” is my most personal and intense project yet. It’s not just an album—it’s an experience. It dives deep into themes of inner conflict, betrayal, redemption, and self-discovery. The sound blends hard-hitting riffs, haunting melodies, and emotionally charged vocals, creating a balance between aggression and vulnerability. If you’ve ever felt lost, broken, or searching for meaning, this album is for you.

How does a song typically come together for you?

It always starts with emotion first. Whether it’s pain, hope, anger, or redemption, I let the feeling guide the process. A song often begins with a guitar riff or melody, and from there, I build the lyrics around that emotion. Sometimes, it all comes together in one burst; other times, I wrestle with it for weeks. The goal is always to serve the emotion behind the song and make sure it feels real.

How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

My music is a fusion of raw energy, emotional depth, and heavy, hard-hitting instrumentals. Think Alter Bridge meets Breaking Benjamin, with the emotional weight of Linkin Park and the intensity of Bullet For My Valentine. It’s built for those who resonate with struggle, faith, and the fight between darkness and light.

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?

I want people to feel seen and understood. My music is about the struggles we all face—battling past demons, questioning faith, or searching for redemption. I want listeners to know that they’re not alone in their fight. There’s a way through the darkness, and music can be a part of that healing. The Unity Tribe isnt just a fanbase—it’s a movement, a family, a place where no one stands alone.

Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?

I’d love to tour across North America and Europe, especially in places like Germany, the UK, and the US, where rock and metal have a strong fanbase. Playing at Download Festival and Rock am Ring would be a dream come true. These places embody the passion and energy of rock and metal, and I want to be part of that experience.

How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?

My sound has evolved from simply being about heavy riffs and aggression to incorporating deeper emotional storytelling and dynamic range. Initially, I focused on raw energy, but as I grew, I learned how to balance intensity with vulnerability. Working with a producer for the first time on Deceit and Desecrate helped refine my sound, allowing me to push my creative boundaries while staying true to my core.

How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?

2025 is going to be massive! I’m already working on my next EP, aiming to take my sound even further. Fans can expect new music, more content, and, hopefully, live shows. The goal is to keep growing, connecting, and building something even bigger. I’m pushing forward, and this is just the beginning.
