Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:
We are Novacrow, an alternative metal band from Liverpool, UK. We’ve recently released our first Christmas single called ‘The Krampus, The Krampus’ along with a brand new music video. The song is an incredibly catchy horror-Christmas anthem, incorporating elements of ragtime and swing music with industrial and alternative metal. It’s fantastic.
What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?
Probably the fact that you have to wear about a million hats. We not only write and perform our own music, but we also record everything in house, film and edit our own videos, design and sell our own merch, book all of our shows ourselves, and we cradle ourselves to sleep every night. It gets so exhausting when really all we want to do is focus on the music, but unless a filthy rich patron is willing to shower us with thousands of pounds to be able to pay people to help us out with these things, it’s gotta be done.
When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?
Immediately. We’re all very ambitious and for some of us in the band music is more than just a hobby – Freddy, for instance, is a full time musician outside the band. Plus we got too many great ideas for this to be just a silly little band (although realistically that’s probably 90% of what we actually are).
Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?
Our latest release is a re-imagining of one of our catchiest songs to date. We’re very proud of it and the reception we’ve had for it is astounding. There’s not enough bands that mix swing music with metal, and we’ve also yet to find a band that’s written a Christmas song for all the fellow goths out there so we’re confident we’ve managed to corner this market. The video for it is really fun as well and we’re very proud of how it turned out. You MUST check it out because it’s Christmas and if you don’t then the Krampus will come get you!
How does a song typically come together for you?
Lately we’ve adopted for working on the songs in our own time. Kitty and Freddy will send demos back and forth to each other until a song comes out, in fact this is how our entire debut album ‘Look At Me Now’ was written. It’s a system that lets us play to our individual strengths and we feel it works great for us.
How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?
An eclectic mix of everything that you love about music. We like experimenting but we also want our songs to have a cohesive feel to them. We’re not above trying things out and our last album encapsulates this perfectly. In fact, ‘The Krampus, The Krampus’ is probably a great example of this – it’s a sing/ragtime feel metal song with full brass sections, fun vocals, and synth elements – what more could you ask for in a song?
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?
That we’re great and you should buy our merch and come to our shows as soon as you’re humanely able. Or spiritually able, we’re not adverse to having ghosts in our audience.
Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?
We can’t wait until we’re old enough that touring retirement homes will be a genuinely plausible experience.
How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?
We’ve all grown a lot as song writers and performers. Our last album is much more mature and refined compared to our previous releases (two EPs and countless singles). We’ve started taking much more pride in making sure our songs are well crafted and well recorded and presented and it really shows. We’ve also refined our senses of humor within the songs so people can still expect both the silliness they’ve come to know us for, whilst appreciating the musicality of our more “serious” songs.
How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?
We’re VERY excited! We’ve started writing new songs that hopefully we’ll be able to finalize soon enough, plus we’ll be looking forward to getting back to our regular performing schedule, starting with our first show of the year on January 4th supporting Evil Scarecrow in Grimsby!
