After receiving the promo materials for a music clip by an Icelandic band called Múr and the news of their signing with Century Media, I gave it a listen and was taken aback by what I was hearing. It was a very fresh familiar sound if that make any sense. I was hearing a lot of familiar ideas, yet it was having its high level of originality in the way it blended the extreme elements and calming atmospheric pieces. It was intriguing.
Múr’s trajectory really gained momentum a year after their formation when their talent was recognized in the spring of 2022 as they conquered the Icelandic Wacken Metal Battle, propelling them to an impressive fourth place in the international finale at Wacken Open Air in Germany.
Then I checked and I saw the band was soon going on tour with the Finnish prog act Wheels, but sadly they wouldn’t be playing on the Oslo show. They were only scheduled for the first part of the European tour. However, today’s technology, despite some glitches, allowed for me to have a chat with Kári Haraldsson, band’s vocalist, keytar responsible and also responsible for a lot of compositions. I realize now I didn’t get to ask how the whole composition process goes for them. But we did chat about the band’s story, their background, their touring experience and plans for the future.
At the time I am typing this, the band is going to hold a release concert for their debut album “Útgáfutónleikar” on December 28th in Reykjavik. So, if you’re around, it’s probably a concert worth attending. I’d love to have the chance of watching these guys live in the future.
Below you have the recording of the interview and underneath you have a link to one of their videos, “Frelsari”
