Anna Wolf Unveils the Visually Arresting Music Video for Latest Single, “FREE”
London-based alternative artist Anna Wolf, known for her hauntingly beautiful and cinematic soundscapes, releases the highly anticipated music video for her latest single, FREE. Produced by Alex Thomas (Air & Anna Calvi), FREE is an anthem of empowerment that explores themes of self-love, liberation, and the courage to break free from toxic relationships.
Anna Wolf, originally from Pretoria, South Africa, has been making waves in the global music scene with her dark, romantic sound. Praised as a fusion of Sia and Johnny Cash, her work resonates deeply with audiences and critics alike. FREE follows in the footsteps of her globally celebrated tracks like Shaped Like A Gun and Wolf, which were featured on FOX’s So You Think You Can Dance.
Reflecting on her new single, Anna explains, “FREE speaks of being caught between old patterns and the new possibilities of finding love. It’s about the familiarity of toxic relationships and the moment of true liberation that comes with self-acceptance.” With its visceral, distortionate valve synth sound, the song delivers both sonic and emotional depth that echoes long after the final note.
The music video is a powerful visual journey, directed by Anna herself in collaboration with Director of Photography Paul Fuller. Set against a striking red backdrop, the video portrays the intensity of relationships that thrive on passion, while intertwining playful cartoon snippets to depict the unraveling of toxic love. The imagery of Anna playing her electric guitar as it bleeds black blood symbolizes the loss of self that occurs in such relationships.

Having worked with an impressive roster of collaborators, including Johnny Clegg, Trey Call (Cash Cabin Studios), and members of Blondie and Eagles of Death Metal, Anna continues to push boundaries in both sound and storytelling. A history-making artist, Anna was the first South African to win the prestigious Grand Prize at the Global Unsigned Only Competition.
In addition to her music, Anna is also an author, with her poetry book Medicine launching to a sold-out event in London’s Soho in 2024. Currently, she is working on a new body of work at the renowned Cash Cabin Studios in Nashville, set for release in early 2025.
