SOULCARRION – Enthrone Death

SOULCARRION – Enthrone Death

The latest death metal bombardment by the Polish tormentors Soulcarrion picks up where last year’s self-titled EP left off. What we have here is savage and vile death metal that is surprisingly catchy given the raw, chaotic, and oftentimes dissonant nature of the material, and “morbid metal” seems like a rather fitting description in my book. The brilliant thing about this juggernaut is that these twisted fucks make every riff count; there is groove and brutality in spades but also variety and several wicked shifts and changes in tone and pace throughout. Apart from being so frighteningly potent and full of atmosphere, it truly is impressive just how memorable these eight songs are, and a perfect example of how to write a bone-grinding, infinitely dark, and gloriously entertaining death metal tune is to be found in the title track and the pummeling blast that is ‘Oblivion’ – both of which are superb in every sense of the word and never lose momentum. Another favorite cut is the menacing ‘Revenge is Mine’, which invokes the same chilling feeling in me as early Morbid Angel and Grotesque do.

Enthrone Death is grimy and gritty metal music delivered in a convincing manner, but I strongly suggest that you play the EP from last year and this loathsome new album of theirs back-to-back for maximum (and unholy) effect. Wicked, disgusting, and essential.
