PICTURE ANN IS LED ASTRAY

The tail end of December saw the lo-fi ambient post-rockers known as Picture Ann grace a doomed planet with a full-length album comprised of six sprawling compositions that all revolve around the idea of losing one’s way in life, of being misled and losing oneself somewhere terrible only to find the way back home an infinitely long and meandering trek. From the unfiltered and doom-laden anguish of the title track to the droning dark ambient soundscapes of the epic ‘Revival’ and further on to the folk-inspired ‘Keen to Abandon You’, Astray encapsulates the varied discography of Picture Ann splendidly and is a brooding opus that offers a measure of spiritual comfort to those who have none and believe in nothing. Then again, maybe it does the exact opposite of that?
