With Do You Dream in Colours? we are quite far removed, musically and stylistically speaking, from what you are probably accustomed to reading on the Eternal Terror Live website, but I would feel like a complete tit if I did not write a few short lines about this stellar offering by Aksel Røed’s Other Aspects as it may appeal greatly to those of you who enjoy the jazzy spectrum of prog rock, or jazz prog, if you will.
This output is all about discovery and creativity, and I am stricken by the album’s energy and drive whenever I spin the CD. In fact, there are moments when it feels as if one’s subconscious is about to take over, which is a beautiful feeling that probably ties in with the record’s psychedelic undertones and prog-like vibes, and the interplay between the musicians involved is frigging amazing. Musically, it sounds and feels very inquisitive, and believe me when I say that there are some unexpected detours throughout that will enrich the listening experience. Intuitive and spontaneous but neither devoid of direction nor memorable qualities, Do You Dream in Colours? is refreshing, engaging, and accessible, and regardless of whether you enjoy free jazz, jazz rock, or jazz prog, you should devote some time to it.
