ENUFF Z’NUFF – Enuff Z’Nuff’s Hard Nite

Renowned hard rockers/glam metallers Enuff Z’Nuff have always praised The Beatles and been quite vocal about how much the Fab Four have inspired them over the years and the impact that the Liverpool legends have had on Enuff Z’Nuff’s own material. It was therefore a most pleasant thing to receive a copy of "Hard Nite" where the long-running US rock outfit pay tribute to the British pioneers and throw in a couple of cover renditions of material by Paul McCartney ("Live and Let Die" and "Jet") and John Lennon ("Cold Turkey"). While the songs are relatively faithful to the original versions in terms of arrangements, they also inhabit many of the traits and characteristics that one associates with Enuff Z’Nuff’s own brand of raunchy rock music and I must say that I find this homage of theirs pretty damn entertaining and energetic.

They have added their own unique touch to the classic cuts and the best and most memorable tracks include the ones that possess either an inherently melancholy quality or a slightly dark edge such as "Eleanor Rigby", "Helter Skelter, and "Revolution" as they are creatively done and performed with more class and conviction than the others. "With a Little Help from My Friends" is a fitting finale to this enthusiastic opus and overall, the record is a charming affair and a heartfelt love letter to some timeless compositions. The liner notes are great too and offer an interesting insight into why certain songs were chosen and what they mean to the band.

Those of you with an open mind and a love for The Beatles and hard rock in general could do worse than checking the wonderfully raw and organic "Hard Nite" out. I am digging this stuff.
