BLOOD RED SAINTS – Undisputed

BLOOD RED SAINTS – Undisputed

The British melodic hard rockers known as Blood Red Saints quite recently unleashed this eleven-track effort via Frontiers Records, and what these gentlemen conjure up is something akin to a cross between FM and Def Leppard, which means that you get a fair number of tasty melodies, solid hooks, and big choruses that are dying to be aired in a live setting.

In many ways, "Undisputed" is an uplifting listening experience, but sadly, there are too many fillers and less than stellar tracks that keep the record from being a total knockout. Some of the songs simply slip by without one really noticing them, which entails that the LP leaves something to be desired in terms of cohesion, quality, and also longevity. Having said that, there are some meaty musical affairs to be discovered here too with the punchy album opener "This Ain’t a Love Song", the Journey-esque "Heaven in the Headlights", and the melancholy "Karma" being some of the highlights. The final tune on the disc, "All I Wanna Do", is a dynamic and atmospheric piece, and it is undoubtedly the best of the bunch. It is also a deft way to bow out and end things on a high note, but again, that does not change the fact that too often "Undisputed" loses momentum and fails to spark the imagination.

"Undisputed" is a slick and polished output that is performed with a sense of conviction and confidence but where the song material is simply too uneven to make it particularly noteworthy or great in the overall perspective.
