BRUNHILDE – To Cut a Long Story Short

BRUNHILDE – To Cut a Long Story Short

Since this one nearly slipped away from my pile of stuff to review and was released about a month ago, let us cut to the chase and do a very short review of it and simply state that Brunhilde’s latest offering consists of energetic, fiery tunes filled with fist-pumping riffs and aggressive, punk-ish vocals coursing through them.

There is a solid amount of variety and plenty of determination and drive to this raw-sounding opus, and the group’s mixture of atmospheric heavy metal and gritty punk is an interesting one as evidenced by the sharp and fierce "Judas" (just listen to that verse riff!) and the pummeling "I’m Crying". Another standout is album closer "It’s All Lies", which is a haunting piece that also appeared on the "Choir Boy" EP (2020). The record does lose a bit of its steam and momentum around "All is Lost" but quickly regains it, and there is generally an awful lot to enjoy here.

I love the fact that it is neither too polished nor predictable, and "To Cut a Long Story Short" is just as inspired and effective as its predecessor, the aforementioned EP.
