ETERNAL IDOL – Renaissance

The Italian symphonic power metal outfit known as Eternal Idol is back with another bombastic full-length offering and a new line-up, and I must say that they sound rejuvenated and re-energized here. Boasting ten epic compositions filled with soaring vocals, massive riffs, and slightly somber melodies, “Renaissance” packs a punch and leaves very little to be desired in terms of passion and emotional charge.
The third track on the disc, “Dark Eclipse”, is an incredibly cool and catchy tune that is as potent as it is diverse – definitely one of the highlights here. Another vigorous piece is “Lord Without Soul” thanks to its meaty riffs and dynamics. Having said all of that, nothing on the disc tops the glorious title cut and its ten minutes of heavy metal brilliance. The production is robust and powerful, and the musicianship is better than it ever was with the balance and interplay between the female and male vocals being particularly noteworthy.
“Renaissance” sounds neither tired nor formulaic and Eternal Idol should be proud of this impressively crafted and melodically strong record of theirs. If you are looking for atmospheric power metal with subtle gothic touches to it, then look no further than this one. Awesome stuff!
