BAN BIANCA – Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is

Sweden’s Ban Bianca have been at it for a handful of years now and churned out a number of EPs, but "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is" is their debut offering and contains seven rather groovy tunes with a lot of enthusiasm and attitude to them. Musically and stylistically speaking, these guys sound as if they are inspired by everything from modern metal to hard rock and further on to alternative rock. Blending different genres and leaning toward different styles of music is obviously a cool thing, but in this case things tend to sound slightly chaotic and unstructured in places, which is to say that certain parts and even whole songs lack cohesion and coherence. As a result, the album comes across as somewhat disconnected and even downright messy in places, but that does not mean that it is entirely without merits. For one thing, there are some fist-pumping riffs and stadium-sized choruses scattered throughout the disc, and there is no shortage of reckless energy and wild passion to the entire affair. Secondly, the musicianship is solid and the album definitely captures a spirited vibe that is quite charming. Having said that, the vocals are the weak spot and do not always manage to match the dynamics of the actual music. They sound and feel a little flat and one-dimensional, which is pretty fucking frustrating.

There is definitely potential to Ban Bianca, but they need to work on those vocals and come up with a more structured, disciplined, and unified set of songs the next time around. "Put Your Money Where Your Mouth" Is is simply not as convincing, hard-hitting, and riveting as I was hoping for, but, like I said, it is not devoid of qualities and positive aspects either.
