KIM WILDE – Here Come the Aliens
The living legend that is Kim Wilde is back with a vengeance in the shape of this fist-pumping and highly addictive 12-track output entitled "Here Come the Aliens". Housed in a brilliant-looking sleeve reminiscent of those charming and classic 50s sci-fi movies that we all love, this 2018 record shows that Wilde is still a musical force to be reckoned with and that she is still relevant in today’s scene. There is something marvelous about the way in which the frenetic album opener "1969" kicks things off and delivers a punch to the face with its thick and pulsating synthesizers and wonderfully crunchy guitars. From thereon there is no turning back and pretty much every cut is irresistible. Other standout tracks such as "Addicted to You", "Birthday", "Rock the Paradiso", and "Stereo Shot" contain massive choruses and more thrilling hooks that you can possibly count. As in-your-face as it is musically exciting, the merging of different genres such as high-octane rock and driven synth pop works like a charm here and there are neither any dull nor lackluster tunes to be found on this splendid disc. Fresh, vigorous, and soaked in various effects and layers of sound, this is exactly how an album by Wilde ought to sound in 2018.
"Here Come the Aliens" is an energetic and life-affirming mix of loud guitars, glorious 80s synth pop, and rock music, all of it with a hard and cool edge to it. It is as entertaining and delightfully wicked as they come and it shows exactly why Wilde has always appealed to fans and music lovers from countless different genres. Say what you will, but Wilde rocks way harder than most and this new album of hers is fucking awesome! Don’t be a conservative metal dick – Open ears will be rewarded here.
