The living legends that are Venom unearthed and spat forth the truly revolutionary "Welcome to Hell" assault all the way back in 1981 and nothing has been the same ever since that fateful event. It is amazing to think that they are still going strong and releasing great music nowadays albeit with a slightly reconfigured line-up. These ugly fuckers from Newcastle are pioneers and are alive and kicking – those are the facts, so deal with it.

The new 3-track EP of theirs entitled "100 Miles to Hell" is just in time for Christmas and is a bombastic and sinister piece of work. Face-melting riffs, pounding drums, monstrous bass lines, and vicious vocals permeate the whole cursed thing, which is more than enough reason for any self-respecting fan of black metal to get excited about this one.

 

Musically and stylistically, the three compositions that constitute "100 Miles to Hell" are very much in the vein of the two previous albums by Venom, namely "Fallen Angels" and "From the Very Depths". The raw and vibrant sound works in favor of the song material and the tunes are utterly memorable, just as one would expect. I can very well imagine each of these three cuts going down a storm in a live setting, especially the title track and the crushing "Beaten to a Pulp" (quite the cool song title, eh?). On a sidenote, those wicked and catchy guitar solos courtesy of Rage are excellent and Dante is a raging monster on the drums.

Venom are still a force to be reckoned with as evidenced by the two previous full-length albums, both of which were absolutely stellar, and this brand new EP of theirs. Personally, I cannot wait to hear what the 2018 effort of theirs will sound like, but you can bet that rinkled ass of yours that it will be nasty, violent, and highly entertaining. But for now, check this cool gem of an EP out either digitally or on vinyl.
