PERSECUTORY – Towards the Ultimate Extinction

The majority of compositions are between five and eleven minutes long, but it works in their favor. Warped and insane black/death metal tunes of this particular brand are usually three minute-long affairs, but Persecutory allow their tracks to develop and mutate underway yet they never stray too far from the chosen path and there is a certain coherence and cohesiveness to the arrangements and song structures. I like the way in which old-school elements and slightly more current tendencies mingle and wrestle with each other throughout the record’s forty-minute long descend into musical lunacy. The guitar leads walk that fine line between being utterly chaotic and somewhat memorable, which is a great thing in and of itself. Slow-burning riffs creep into the songs from time to time and add diversity to the proceedings while the vocals are pretty dynamic and sick. There are plenty of raw and grinding riffs, twisted and depraved melodies, bombastic and crushing drums, and downright nasty atmospheres to be found on "Towards the Ultimate Extinction", so all you fans of bestial black/death/thrash metal ought to check this one out.
