TYGERS OF PAN TANG – Tygers of Pan Tang

TYGERS OF PAN TANG – Tygers of Pan Tang

Judging from this excellent self-titled opus that will be released by Mighty Music in just a few days (and probably already out by the time you are reading this), the legendary NWOBHM act Tygers of Pan Tang is still very much alive and kicking. The awesome album cover art says it all and tells you exactly what you are in for, which is memorable and varied power metal containing explosive choruses, cool hooks, great vocals, melodic solos, and punchy riffs. Granted, not every song on the album reeks of greatness, but tunes such as "Blood Red Sky", "Dust", "I Got the Music in Me", "Only the Brave", "The Devil You Know", and "Do It Again" are truly well written and catchy, and I find it impossible not to be carried away by those. "Dust" is without doubt one of the most brilliant songs ever conceived by the band. The production is pretty beefy and juicy, but the songs have a hint of rawness to them as well, which is to say that they sound neither lifeless nor devoid of atmosphere. On the contrary. Vocalist Jacopo Meille does a great job and the riffs and melodies sound inspired and straight from the heart. There is no faulting the musicianship. That is for damn sure! Having said that, the one thing that does nothing for me are the ballads, namely "Angel in Disguise" and "Praying for a Miracle", as they simply seem to lack substance and depth. Luckily, the remaining songs all pretty much rule.

Overall, "Tygers of Pan Tang" is a truly entertaining album that will rock your tiny testicles off. I cannot wait to hear some of the songs off this album performed live on stage. This album is a most pleasant surprise that you ought to check out!
