TWISTED SISTER – We Are Twisted F***ing Sister!
"We Are Twisted F***ing Sister!," Andrew Horn’s 2014 documentary film that chronicles the birth and ascend of the legendary Long Island outfit Twister Sister back in the 70s and early 80s, is not only very insightful, but also highly captivating and fascinating. It is most definitely one of the best music-related films that I have had the pleasure of viewing for quite some time now.
It traces and details the humble beginnings of the band, the personal and musical differences, the fractions and problems, the triumphs and defeats, and, obviously, the interpersonal relationships within the band and how they pulled together as a team when push came to shove. One gets a truly interesting peek into the creative and highly intense workings and mechanism of the band. Witnessing how relentlessly they toured the Tri-state area and gradually built a large fanbase and following is simply mindblowing to behold.
One of the gems, or strengths, if you will, of this film is the way in which it shifts its focus from the musicians, managers, and promoters to the fans themselves, which is to say those fans that were actually around back in the day before Twisted Sister landed a record deal and so on. It adds a lot of perspective as well as a bit of nostalgia and sentimentality to the whole thing. At the same time, it also shows just how connected the band and its fans truly were and still are. Marvelous stuff!
Given that "We Are Twisted F***ing Sister!" is so thorough, detailed, and in-depth all around, it is one of those movies that one can watch many times over in order to absorb and digest the rich amount of stories and anecdotes relating to the rise of Twisted Sister. This is one movie you do not want to miss. Get off your ass and obtain a copy of this 135-minute long cinematic delight now!
