OMNIUM GATHERUM – Grey Heavens
Omnium Gatherum has been a melodic death metal favorite of mine ever since the release of "New World Shadows" back in 2011, and the release of "Beyond" in 2013 only secured this even further. Come 2016, these two albums still rotates frequently wherever I may roam, at home, in my car, at work, out drinking and hellraising. So, what about "Grey Heavens"? Is it possible to keep up the momentum and continue to deliver top notch material?
Oh yes….These guys are simply not capable of making anything less than outstanding music. So, you’re one of those "Melodic death metal is not real" guys. Yeah, right…Know this, Omnium Gatherum does not compromise when it comes to the death metal part. This is as brutal as any straight forward classic death metal band, it hits you like a hammer, and the growling is superb. At the same time they come up with melancholic and beautiful passages throughout the album that can rip any hardcore headbangers heart out in an instant, absolutely beautiful. To point out any song that stands out is not possible, they all stand out in some way or another. Sure, I have a soft spot for these talented and sympathetic Finns, but there is a reason; its damn good music, music that deserves to be spread out to every little metal corner around the globe. To be released late February 2016, and already a contender for album of the year, allright!
