BLOODLOST – Evil Origins

BLOODLOST – Evil Origins

Nothing wrong with a little more old school thrash metal if done correctly – Switzerland’s Bloodlost waste no time getting down to business for album three "Evil Origins". After a brief "Azazel" intro, "Hammer On Your Face" stacks the riffs, gang vocals, and speed to half-time tempos in such a whirlwind that Slayer maniacs or early 1990’s Kreator fans will go nuts. Insane tapping/ whammy bar action punctuates "I Am Evil", while the marching follow up "The Doors" sits comfortably in the late 80’s Metallica tradition.

Guitarist Tchico has an acidic roar to his vocals which can be hit or miss for long term appeal. It works for balls out affairs like "Demolition", not so much on the semi-gallop closer "The Undertaker" (especially through the call and response gang driven chorus). For some, second and third tier thrash still tickles the right adrenaline aural nerve centers just fine- for myself, "Evil Origins" is 35 minutes of familiar tunes and performances, but nothing to get overly excited about.
