ONE-WAY MIRROR – Capture

ONE-WAY MIRROR – Capture

Take one part Mnemic vocalist in Guillaume Bideau, add in the rest of Lyzanxia in guitar brothers David and Franck Potvin, bassist Perdi and drummer Clément Rouxel and you would think we would develop quite an intriguing heavy product. Dead wrong – the 11 originals plus intriguing ‘pop’ turned heavy cover choice slot horizontally in the modern rock realm – a little nu-metal here, very safe, calculated and groove oriented throughout.

Three Days Grace, Disturbed, Linkin Park all roll into One-Way Mirror’s sonic platform – as well as cyber/ industrial effects for "The Clock Is Ticking", down tuned bounce for "Cliffs", and a semi hip hop influence for the word delivery and trippy groove to "Tomorrow Comes Fast". Bothering to touch "Lady Marmalade" and transform it into a heavy rock meets rap cut is a travesty- this should have been tossed into the demo bin and banished from fleshing it out to record.

I get it, these Europeans love American bands. Sometimes though it’s perfectly acceptable to seek out wise mentors who maybe would have had these musicians think a few times before making One-Way Mirror a reality. "Capture" as their third album could be blaring from most North American rock radio stations today – signifying not much in the originality tank. A shame really, as I really enjoy Mnemic and Lyzanxia through the years.
