MEGASONIC – Intense

MEGASONIC – Intense

Belgian melodic metal here from Megasonic – as "Intense" is their debut album, a 13 song effort that consists of 11 originals plus two closing cover tracks for "Down to Mexico" (Paul Gilbert) and "Does Your Mother Know" (ABBA). The band has a dramatic, almost theatrical nature during a ballad like "Love Lost Love" that has similarities to Savatage circa "Streets: The Rock Opera", but can also be very straightforward and heavy in a heads down manner for "Bombs Away" and the Primal Fear-ish "Eye of the Storm".

Dimitri Verhoeven has a decent but not spectacular vocal range – and I enjoy his wider approach on the cover tracks, developing his bluesy chops on "Down to Mexico" while being very pomp rock and fun-loving on the ABBA cut. In the end "Intense" is a solid platform for Megasonic to grow and expand upon.
