NAUGHTY WHISPER – Addicted to Decadence

This third album from Italian quartet Naughty Whisper represents my first sojourn into this act’s sound. “Addicted To Decadence” within its 12 songs has this dirty heaviness meets gothic strain- as if they’ve been following many of the bigger acts like The 69 Eyes, HIM, and latter day Sentenced with the vocal style of a California band. Many of these songs possess endearing melodies or quick hitting riff presence- as I’ve had a hard time letting go of both qualities within album highlight “My Own Demise” or the sinister, hypnotic keyboard/drum groove throughout “Poison White”.

The record ends with their own interpretation of the 80’s electronic pop hit from the Cutting Crew, “(I Just) Died In Your Arms”- and the heavily accented melodies provide more humor than probably intended, rendering the song passé. Overall this is a decent effort, nothing super original but lives up to its title and should get many on the fringe dancing and clapping along quite nicely.
