SEVEN ENDS – To The Worms

SEVEN ENDS – To The Worms

Winning their country’s Wacken Battle competition in 2010 brought this Dutch modern thrash/ death Seven Ends on the map of Massacre Records, resulting in a fresh record deal and this debut 9 song album. Reference points appear obvious on certain songs- Slayer descending riffs against Hatesphere speed and Machine Head bottom end groove on “Cadaver Throne”, and Testament like leads against Vader brutality on “A World In Darkness”. Vocalist Jan Bieseman has one of those throaty voices that blurs the lines of death, thrash and hardcore- not really distinguishable from the pack and sometimes ill-equipped to match the musical proceedings such as on the Sepultura-esque “Hypocrites Of Faith” where guitarists Ricardo Carta and Leon Vinders lay down some schooled lead breaks.

“To The Worms” has too many obvious breakdown moments to really place this in the essential modern thrash/death category. Maybe the talent within this lineup needs more road work and chemistry to produce a distinct, Seven Ends record the next go around.
