JIM FOSTER – PowerLines
Canadian singer/guitarist and songwriter who released “PowerLines” originally in 1986, but never on CD until now. Close your eyes and songs like “Maggie” and “It’s Up To You” have all the hallmarks of quintessential 80’s pop rock scene: keyboards providing the foundation, solid vocal melodies as the hook mechanism, electronic drums propelling the dance beat and the occasional surprise with saxophone work embellishing the spirit of the songs. “X-Ray Eyes” was a top 30 hit back in the day, but I barely remember this one-hit wonder in my teenage years.
The strange love child of Rick Springfield and Pseudo Echo, “PowerLines” defines average for this style – thus be careful before purchasing as I don’t think it stands up well as a classic.
