MARIENBAD – Werk 1: Nachtfall (English version)

18 months of work result in 2 albums from German doom/death act Marienbad. Looking at the English version of “Werk 1: Nachtfall”, you’ll get 8 songs with a morose, sullen outlook, despair filled vocals and music with Solitude Aeturnus, Candlemass and possibly The Ocean in mind. The work of two Eisregen masterminds, vocalist M.Roth and guitarist/keyboardist Yantit keep each arrangement centered around repetitive guitar lines and chords, simpler doom drum grooves and piano/ keyboard parts much in line with funeral themes.
“7 In The Lake” and “Wall Of Water” had their moments of spirit, but overall Marienbad lose my interest with the erratic vocal melodies and similar tempo speeds which make everything sound like background noise and non-distinct.
