HELL-BORN – Darkness (re-release)

HELL-BORN – Darkness (re-release)

"Darkness" is for the people that enjoy in your face Death Metal with a heavy Anti-christian / Anti-religious vibe. If you’re looking for an album where ancient grimoires are being recited you need to look elsewhere. When I got this album last year it didn’t sit right with me. Perhaps my expectations were too high but for some reason I expected more from a band that, for the most part, was built by ex-members of Behemoth.

But, we have to look at history for a bit of insight into this because just as Hell-Born was born and Baal & Les quit Behemoth things changed. Behemoth became the obscene occult crazed machine we know today and Hell-Born, well, Hell-Born slowly became the Polish version of Deicide. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not a bad thing. Being compared to Deicide is never a bad thing in my book. But, why do I compare them to Deicide? It’s basically due to two things: The music & the lyrics. The music is down to earth Death Metal that gets heads rolling, bodies shaking and glasses emptied. The lyrics are Anti-Christian & in your face and have more to do with matters we deal with on regular basis than incantations to old gods.

It’s a good thing Baal is easily understandable as I cannot for the love of whatever read the lyrics in the booklet. Whoever thought it was a good idea to put black ink on a dark grey background is a malicious son of a bitch. This makes it also difficult to enjoy the art that is in the booklet. Devil’s work!
