MALEVOLENT CREATION – Invidious Dominion

MALEVOLENT CREATION – Invidious Dominion

More mature and better sounding record than "Doomsay X" but pretty much good ol’ Malevolent Creation at its deadliest. I think it’s their fastest, the most brutal creation (no pun intended) yet. If you didn’t like them before "Invidious Dominion" won’t change your mind one bit. No melodies, no hooky, sing-songy parts just a straight brutal death. I always compared these guys to Kataklysm: similar sound and style. While Kataklysm has better lyrics, MC are better songwriters, in my opinion.

"Doomsay X" had a lot of variety, slower tracks followed fast death scorchers. ID has only moments of slow down, although admittedly, Target Rich Environment is slower than the rest…sometimes. What we’re dealing with here is fast unrelenting death on practically every track. Is that good?

If you’re looking for a decent death metal album that will deploy you to Valhalla a tad bit earlier than you’ve planned, "Invidious…" will do the trick. If you’re looking for musical innovation and complexity you’d best look elsewhere. Malevolent Creation is out there to annihilate you with brutal music and asinine lyrics. You know, the usual “you r head explodes, blood flows, etc. In your face chugga-chugga reminiscent of "Slowly We Rot" meets "Reign in Blood". Granted the sound is very meaty, in your face and biting at your ears, courtesy of Eric Rutan, and the riffs tend to be repetitive but inventive with one exception: "Slaughterhouse" main riff sounds “borrowed” from Gorefest "The Glorious Dead" off "False" album only slower here. But this is death metal, similarities expected.

For what it is and sets out to do a strong 4/6. Worth ownage if you’re into this sort of thing. Others advised to stay away or “you watch yourself die” ("Slaugherhouse").
