EISREGEN – Schlangensonne

Black/death metal with electronic overtones, somewhere between Dark Tranquillity, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir and Rammstein. Actually pretty good stuff if not very original. I really love the production: meaty, raw, heavy and aggressive with the atmosphere of blackest of dooms. Just listen to track no. 7, which can rival Pantera in heaviness and ferocity. German actually sounds great with aggressive and dark music like this. Worked for the awesome Geist, why not here?

Despite the influences, riffs, melodies, songwriting and structure all breathe freshness into what can sometimes be a stifling genre. These Germans don’t really care to remain within any confines though, which results in better result than the alternative. Material is varied, the kind where anyone can find something to like for themselves. I also got a chuckle out of the joke at the beginning of no. 9, where someone asks in German: asshole, where is the asshole?  

A very talented, skillful and surprisingly fresh-sounding music. And those guitars, you must listen to this even if just for those fucking razors for guitars! With clear conscience
