RATOS DE PORAO reutgivelser

Metal Mind Productions presents re-release of the classic material from Roadrunner Records' archives – four albums from Ratos de Porao, one of the first and to this day most respected names in the history of Brazilian punk/hardcore/crossover scene.

Their honorable legacy stretches out from 1981 until today, when the band still is active and performs live all across Brazil. Their music evolved throughout the years, incorporating elements of punk, hardcore and even thrash metal to the structure, making Ratos de Porao the first Brazilian crossover band. Ratos de Porao remains a living legend of the Brazilian underground, still unjustly omitted by the mainstream. Paradoxically, RDP's singer, Gordo, works from the late 90's as a popular host for MTV Brazil. The band's latest release, "Homem Inimigo Do Homem" (2006) proves that the idea of Ratos de Porao will never die!

"Brasil", "Anorkophobia", "Just Another Crime in Massacreland" & "Feijoada Acidente?  International" – released in a new digipack edition on golden discs, featuring bonus tracks, digitally remastered using 24-Bit process and limited to numerated 2000 copies. Ratos de Porao re-releases will be available from 27th August in Europe & 22nd October in USA (via MVD).

Bio
Ratos de Porao ("Basement Rats") started in 1981 in their native city of Sao Paulo. Back then it was a time when not many people even heard of punk rock, as the scene was only beginning to emerge. In 1982 the band took part in the recording of a sampler called "Sub", where they appeared with six tracks next to other local groups. A very well received performance on the O Começo do Fim do Mundo followed shortly after. Two years later, with new vocalist Joao Gordo RDP released their debut album "Crucificados Pelo Sistema", which featured a heavy dose of cryptic punk rock. 1985 brought a live split album with Cólera, entitled simply "Ratos de Porao e Cólera Ao Vivo", which captured the two bands' show at Lira Paulistana, Sao Paulo. A year after a second official release appeared – "Descanse em Paz", featuring new musicians – Jao (Joăo Carlos Molina Esteves) on guitar and Spaghetti (Nelson Evangelista Jr.) on drums. The first chapter of the band was just the beginning. The third independent album – "Vivendo Cada Dia Mais Sujo e Agressivo" (1987) – begun a new chapter in RDP's career. The music evolved into a heavier form, adapting elements of thrash metal, which made the band somewhat comparable to their Brazilian brothers – Sepultura. These two groups to this day remain in friendly relations. Surprisingly, more and more metalheads got convinced with RDP's music. Finally, with a huge support from the underground scene and thanks to various contacts, the band got signed to Roadrunner Records. The first release for Roadrunner was "Brazil" (1989), which again showcased the band's thrash influences and marked a new style for the group, which was very well received by both hardcore and metal fans. "Anarkophobia" hit the stores a year later, only to confirm RDP's evolution towards a heavier sound. With the help of these two releases, RDP became the second, after Sepultura, best known Brazilian metal band on the market. The success of "Brazil" and "Anarkophobia" was followed by three more releases for Roadrunner – the first one was an LP called "Another Crime in Massacreland" (1993). After that RDP recorded a cover album called "Feijoada Acidente?", which was eventually released in 1995 in two versions – one focusing on Brazilian bands, the other – on international groups. In-between the cooperation with Roadrunner, RDP released also a live album for Eldorado Records in 1992, entitled "RDP Ao Vivo". After 1995 the deal with Roadrunner expired, but the band did not stop recording new albums, In 1997 "Carniceria Tropical" was released, followed by a tribute album to RDP – "Traidô" ("Betrayer"), which ironically suggested that the group had been betraying the Brazilian punk cause. In 2001 the band got involved with Alternative Tentacles Records. The first release for them was "Sistemados pelo Crucifa", a remake of RDP's first full-length album, "Crucificados Pelo Sistema". The deal with Alternative Tentacles lasted until 2002, when "Onisciente Colectivo" was released. After that RDP appeared in the famous CBGB club in the USA. The performance was recorded and released in 2003 as "Ao Vivo no CBGB". Today, Ratos de Porao remains a living legend of the Brazilian underground, still unjustly omitted by the mainstream. Paradoxically, RDP's singer, Gordo, works from the late 90's as a popular host for MTV Brazil. The other musician also made sure that their jobs will make it possible for them to continue playing in RDP. The band's latest release, "Homem Inimigo Do Homem" (2006) proves that the idea of Ratos de Porao will never die!
