The London-based squadron known as Metasoma will release their five-track EP titled Core in early August, and if thick, massive grooves and body-slamming riffs designed to numb your skull stimulate you, now is the time to get excited.

There is a modern edge and a subtle melodic sensibility on display that recall acts such as Devildriver and Parkway Drive, yet the emotionally charged, hard-hitting, and fierce parts have more in common with Pantera around the time of Vulgar Display of Power than anything else, which entails that the song material strikes a good balance between aggression and slower, introspective, and calm passages. There is an abundance of tension and release throughout, which is what makes diverse compositions in the shape of “Attic” and “Shock” such intriguing and memorable encounters, and when the musicianship leaves nothing to be desired either, you are basically left with a damn fine addition to the UK metal scene and its collective discography. These gentlemen could undoubtedly go a long way.

Core floats in an ether of its own, which is to say somewhere between the groove-tinted metal of the 90s and modern alt. rock tropes. So, how about it? You basically get stack loads of reflective lyrics backed by energy-propelled riffs, impressive vocal melodies, and classy song arrangements here. How could anyone possibly resist something like that?
