Captured for posterity back in September of 2024 in Malmö and sporting a magnificent line-up that is truly gelling and capable of delivering some wonderful surprises, the live LP titled Panacea by the Swedish vintage-sounding prog rock ensemble Agusa is a masterclass in real warmth, genuine excitement, and skill.

The group’s playful take on highly creative (and primarily instrumental) prog with folk-esque traits and psychedelic undertones to it sounds formidable, and the three lengthy tracks on the disc are simply meant to be performed live. Atmosphere, unadulterated joy, and exploration are the key words and phrases throughout, and the upbeat vibes and soulful nature of the compositions, or rather these live renditions of “Lust Och Fägring (Sommarvisan),” “Den Förtrollade Skogen,” and “Ur Askan,” have resulted in a listening experience that can only be described as seductive and enthralling. The fact is that the combination of drums, bass, guitar, flute, organ, and percussion has rarely sounded better than it does here, and the music soars while managing to touch the heart and soul in the process. Marvelous!

Panacea feels incredibly special due to the harmonic depth, the chemistry between the band members, the momentum that seems ever present, and the fact that tunes leave a huge impact. In short, this one comes highly recommended as live albums rarely pack as much spirit, vigor, enthusiasm, and excitement as this stunning effort does. What a ride this is!
