STICKRECY – interview

STICKRECY – interview

Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:

Sickrecy is a Swedish grindcore act inspired by the late 80’s, early 90’s extreme music era but without being a “retro´´band. Our latest effort is a 7inch vinyl together with Austrian grinders Distaste. You can find our tracks on all streaming services as well as on vinyl and we’ve just made a video for the track Last In Line from this release.

What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?

S- I think it’s getting through the noise. There’s so much content from so many artists, bands and music related companies so it’s very hard to cut through and get your message and stuff heard.

When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?

S- After we dropped our first ep, i would say. The response on that ep was really good. Then, after we released our debut album Salvation Through Tyranny it got even greater and we got offered some really cool gigs that we couldn’t turn down so we had to complete the line up and take Sickrecy to the stage.

Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?

S- It’s the first of three split 7inch vinyls to be released this year and our tracks can be found on all streaming sites as well. First track, Man’s the leech is a fast, aggressive grindcore, death metal and crust punk track whilst the second one, Last in Line is more of a mid tempo song with a great (for the genre) catchy chorus with a fast middle section. It’s a more death metal oriented track than Man’s the leech.

How does a song typically come together for you?

S- It usually start with me or Marcus coming up with some riffs on our own, then recording a quick demo and pass it over to one another for approval. Then we start building the song either on our own or together, then when the song is finished and i’ve laid down the final drums i start writing the lyrics. The demos for the finished songs get passed along for approval in our group chat and lastly the vocals and lead guitars/solos get recorded.

How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

S- I would say that it sounds like a mixture of the older Napalm Death, Terrorizer and older Death but with a new touch.

What do you want listeners to take with them from listening to your band?

S- The joy and positivity that our music brings. Even though it’s aggressive and fast music with lyrics about the horrible state of the world i would say that our music is uplifting with a positive feeling.

Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?

S- It would be really cool to go to South America and Indonesia but anywhere in the world is more than fine by me.

How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?

S- I don’t really know, but we always strive to progress and not to write the same songs over and over. We always try to evolve in our songwriting and to bring some new influences into the music but i don’t know if our audience notice that as much as we do.

How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?

S- We are very excited and as i said earlier, we are releasing three split 7inch vinyls this year and we are working on our second full length album. We haven’t got that many shows booked for this year but i suppose that it’s a good thing since it takes a lot of creative thoughts to make a solid album. I hope that 2026 will be an even better year with a new album release and a whole bunch of shows.

Thanks a lot for this interview and CHEERS/Martin
