PARADISE – interview

PARADISE – interview

Interview with Frank Kelly ( Guitars )

Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:

Paradise has been around for 25 years … but we took a 6 -7 year break. Came back in 2020 with the third record (Paradise) and been going strong since then. Started as a side project years ago with Michel “Away” Langevin from Voivod on drums and we went through a whole bunch of different phases. As it sits today, I think it’s the best line-up we’ve ever had.

What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?

Social media. We’re not musicians anymore we’re content creators.

When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?

It’s still just a fun idea but done right. We’re invested 150% and we take great pride in being professional, but we’ll never take ourselves seriously. We’re 5 guys just having a great time and that’s what rock and roll is about.

Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?

I think it’s a great feel-good album. A lot of our fans tell us they love to listen to it on the road or while doing house chores … makes the feel good and happy. Always something we like to hear.

How does a song typically come together for you?

Guitar riffs. And I like to keep them simple and efficient. And easy to play when bouncing on stage. Jokes aside, music usually comes first then melodies.

How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

A cross between old school heavy metal and hard rock. With stoner rock influences here and there. It’s all just rock and roll to me.

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?

If it makes the feel good and happy our mission is done.

Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?

We’re in discussions for Japan and South Korea … never been there and it would be a dream tour.

How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?

It did a lot since the first record was 24 years ago. It was more punk and hard rock oriented. I also use to sing for the band. Now with Blacky on vocals and the guitars that got heavier it’s a whole other band.

How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?

New record is coming in 2025 … so more live shows and we’ll be trying to show more of our asses on social media 😉 Seems to be working for some people 😉
