PERSECUTORY – The Glorious Persecution

The Turkish casket removers known as Persecutory are back with a stellar new output, namely this 3-track EP titled The Glorious Persecution, and it marks their finest hour yet in terms of songwriting and atmosphere.

Raw and slime-soaked black metal coupled with pulverizing death metal is the name of the game, and these bestial fuckers do it better than most. The riffs go straight for the jugular vein but are also loaded with an impenetrable layer of darkness that weaves a forbidding spell on one’s mind. I could tell you that this wildly catchy yet richly textured piece of unholiness gives me the same bone-chilling feeling as the very best compositions by Temple of Baal and Kriegsmaschine do without sounding exactly like them, but I believe the important thing here is to underline just how staggeringly efficient and gloriously unsettling these three lengthy tracks are. With its compelling aura and focused attack on one’s senses not to mention the fact that its menacing content carries a lot of impact and marks a new high for the group, the future of black metal (or blackened death metal, if you will) is undoubtedly in safe hands. Simply put, Persecutory have exceeded beyond expectation here and sound as fierce and determined as ever. Definitely one to add to your vile and inhuman playlist.
