Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:
We are Peel from Norway. We come from a small town just outside of oslo. Peel is Pim on guitars, vocals, keys and programming, Holten on bass, programming and stuff, and Seb on guitars and programming.
Our latest release is a single called “Love Phobia”.
What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?
In spite of all the platforms and channels we now have for promoting music I think the hardest part is to reach anyone. Quite ironic, but the noise of social media just drowns and kills everything.
When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?
When Peel started out back in the late 90s we did so with a very clear idea of what we wanted to accomplish, so right from the start I would say.
Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?
“Love Phobia” is a cool guitar-riff driven rocker that sounds fresh and at the same time hints back at early 80s hard rock, maybe a little grunge, it has the whiff of 60s naive pop melody in there, and there’s a great energy to it.
How does a song typically come together for you?
Often it’s a vocal melody and some chord progression that sparks an idea for a song. Then it goes out to everyone in some form of a demo and so it goes back and forth a lot until it’s a song and it sounds like Peel. At other times it just falls into place right away. Almost without exception though when we go in to do the final recordings the songs are very ready.
What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?
If it moves someone in any way at all its mission accomplished I guess.
Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?
It would be great to tour Japan and some of the surrounding countries over there. It seems so different from here and the people seem so polite and genuinely interested and happy.
How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?
Going back and listening to our catalogue is interesting. Every release is so recognizable as Peel, yet every release is very different from each other. The most obvious change soundwise is perhaps how we have shifted from doing a lot of upfront loops, beats and electronic stuff to becoming more organic. Guitar riffs are cool!
How excited are you for 2025, and what can fans expect from you?
We have a new single coming out very soon called “One You Know”, and then we are planning for an album release in the new year. The new album will be called “Big Sundown” and we hope to speak with you again when that’s out! In the meantime check out Peel here:
