THE HAPTICS – interview

THE HAPTICS – interview

Introduce your band, and describe your latest release:

Hi we’re the Haptics from Vancouver! Making noise that could be described as post-punk. We’re really excited to have just released “Vows “ a month ago, and looking forward to the second single “Biodome” coming out Dec 1st. And to be clear it’s not a Christmas song…sorry Mom!

What’s the hardest part about being a band in this day and age?

Getting four adults together in the same room regularly can be a challenge, that and the hangovers. But I think those have always been the challenges of being in a rock band

When did you realise that your project had the potential to be much more than just a fun idea?

Well it’s more fun than ever now. We get to play music together on a regular basis and it’s just hanging with your friends making music. We’re more in sync with each other than ever before. But I think when this project really found it’s footing is when we first realized we had written enough songs to maybe put together our first album “second best”. Then it really started to feel real.

Tell us about your latest release, why should we check it out?

Our latest single “Vows” is the best (so far) attempt towards defining our sound. It feels like we’re getting closer to finding the Haptics sound, and although I’m sure it’ll evolve, it feels like we’re now on the way

How does a song typically come together for you?

One of us will bring a riff or melody in to rehearsal and then as a band we will jam on it for awhile. Once we’ve started to find it’s shape Jin will start to weave her magic and write the lyrics

How would you describe your sound to an unfamiliar reader?

The sound is still developing but we’re a healthy mix of post-punk, post-rock, and post-grunge.

What do you want listeners to take away from listening to your band?

When people see us live I hope they come away energized and happy. We hope people go through a range of feeling when they listen to us. Energized, happy, often sad and introspective but always fun!

Where would you really like to tour that you haven’t done so yet, and why?

We’d love to tour the UK! We’re hoping to get out and play some festivals next summer in Canada first and then hopefully we can get overseas!

How would you say that the sound of your band has progressed over the years?

We’ve only been together for 2 and a half years so I like to think there will be many years ahead! We’ve got kilometers of road ahead of us

How excited are you for 2023, and what can fans expect from you?

We’re so excited for 2025! Our second album will be out April 1st! And we’ll be playing as much as possible, we’d love to get out and play the festival circuit for the summer months
