BLACKBIRD ANGELS – Solsorte

Blackbird Angels turned out to be a very cool and pleasant surprise in that it sees such skilled musicians as Tracii Guns (guitars), Todd Kerns (vocals), and Adam Hamilton (drums) teaming up to deliver a raw and raunchy slab of blues-infested hard rock. Two things that immediately came to mind when listening to the disc were Bad company and Led Zeppelin, which is a very good thing in this instance. You see, it truly sounds as if these guys had fun writing and recording the songs that wound up on Solsorte (as a Dane I simply love the title of the kick-ass LP but that is beside the point). There is a loose, jam-like quality to the superbly crafted compositions, and they capture a warm, vibrant, and authentically vintage spirit that totally works for me. I would have liked a slightly crunchier, heavier, and more hard-hitting sound and production, but the song material is wicked and inspired and that is what matters the most. Really good stuff and one can only hope that these gentlemen will churn out some more records akin to this one in the future.
