Bordeaux-based doom progressive stalwarts MARS RED SKY unveil details on the release of their new EP featuring dark folk singer QUEEN OF THE MEADOW – due out on April 28th 2023 via Mrs Red Sound and Vicious Circle Records.
When the power of psychedelic heavy meets the depth of dark folk harmonies, it results in a complex and exhilarating flavour. The daring combination opens up the genres to a whole new dimension. MARS RED SKY‘s new EP, soberly entitled “Mars Red Sky & Queen Of The Meadow”, exalts and enhances the trio’s magic formula: namely, the blend of a robust and determined rhythm section with jagged and ambitious vocals, all evolving within a unique soundscape. The two tracks of the record suggest a disturbing journey through an immense maze directly inspired by mad architect Piranesi and his towers with terrifying staircases. Real melodic narrative, QUEEN OF THE MEADOW‘s vocals carve out an unexpected relief. Mars Red Sky offers here an abysmal production, polished and unheard of.
The EP was produced, recorded and mixed by Benjamin Mandeau at Cryogène Prod, Bègles (France), and mastered by Ladislav Agabekov (Nostromo) at Caduceus Studios, Gimel (Switzerland). It is coming out on vinyl, streaming and download through Mrs Red Sound and Vicious Circle Records.

To record their self-titled debut album, they shut themselves up in a remote house in the wilderness of the Spanish desert. Hypnotic, exhilarating, heavy, the release conquered the very select heavy family and brought the trio to the biggest international rock and metal stages (SXSW, Hellfest, Desertfest, Roadburn), as well as opening for major acts such as Sleep, Dinosaur Junior, Kyuss Lives!, Killing Joke or Gojira.
On stage, they manage to recreate their sophisticated studio atmospheres and to deliver the special sonic touch that characterises them. Their live shows absorb the listener, lose him into a visual and vibrant limbo and take him into another dimension. Beyond a simple concert, it is a real sensorial experience that is proposed.
A series of EP releases follow, including a split with post-metal sextet Year Of No Light in 2012. In 2014, MARS RED SKY begin a collaboration with French label Listenable Records and welcome their new drummer Matgaz to replace Benoît Busser who decides to leave the band. Together they complete the albums “Stranded In Arcadia” (2014), “Apex III (Praise For The Burning Soul)” (2016) and “The Task Eternal” (2019). Matgaz’s vision and musicianship create depth in the trio’s personality, which take a darker and more massive turn throughout these three productions.
Eager for original projects, MARS RED SKY decide to release their debut album in December 2021, to celebrate the band’s 10th anniversary, by providing an online tool for re-mixing it. The album is available via their own record label Mrs Red Sound, through which they support French heavy rock scene.
The band’s next EP is announced in featuring with dark folk artist Queen Of The Meadow. The EP will be available from April 28th 2023 on Mrs Red Sound and Vicious Circle Records.
