TERMINAL CARNAGE – The Sickening Rebirth

TERMINAL CARNAGE – The Sickening Rebirth

Here is yet another quality death metal release from the ever-reliable Great Dane Records and what we have here is a lean, concise 31-minute onslaught by the German duo known as Terminal Carnage. With an emphasis on thick grooves and dark, rumbling riffs, these grumpy-looking fucks deliver some hard-hitting passages and heavy blows here with the songs being mostly pretty memorable and easily accessible. Having said that, "The Sickening Rebirth" is not devoid of some interesting shifts and twists, so this is neither annoyingly complex nor convoluted but instead relatively straightforward with a few wicked surprises popping up now and again.

Many of these tunes possess a sense of swagger, attitude, and groove while simultaneously being quite ugly and unpleasant in terms of their mood, so in that sense the album strikes a good balance between intensity, catchiness, and the foul spirit of old-school death metal. The vocals are solid and varied but the musicianship is strong overall and this is one of those rumbling, aggressive outputs that manages to keep the listener focused and engaged throughout. A cool addition to the death metal scene.
