DEFEATER – Defeater

Boston (melodic) hardcore outfit Defeater is something out of the ordinary in so many ways. It is not that they do not offer up hyper-aggressive and fear-inducing music of the most punishing kind, because they most certainly do, but there is something deep and profound about their grief-stricken and emotionally heavy song material that sets them apart from pretty much any other hardcore band out there that I know of.
Relentlessly bleak and explosive as fuck, Defeater combine their brilliant, heartfelt, and reflective lyrics beautifully with the actual music, and it is marvelous to experience how the various components and elements all work together and both enhance and intensify each other. In short, the splendid combination of the dynamic, pulverizing music and the mournful words that are stories in and of themselves packs a serious punch and will not leave you untouched or unmoved. Rarely have fiery songs that speak of longing sounded as powerful and convincing as they do here. Make sure you have the lyrics at hand when you dive deep into its glorious content. Highly recommended!
