SEPTICFLESH – Codex Omega

SEPTICFLESH – Codex Omega

Septic Flesh, the mighty band who gave us one of the best, if not the best, symphonic death metal albums ever released, namley "Sumerian Daemon" from 2003. And just then, at the peak of their career, everything ended. No more Septic Flesh. Until 2008… Behold, Septicflesh! So, how do you return after delivering theperformance of your life, and thereby ending your career the best way possible? We all know the answer to that. "Communion"  was nothing les than a newmasterpiece, and a great return in triumph indeed. "The Great Mass"(2011) and "Titan"(2014) then followed, both excellent albums, packed with massive anddark symphonic metal, but, in my humble opinion, not of the same ridiculous high standard as "Sumerian Daemon" and "Communion". Come 2017, "Codex Omega",in my hands 6 weeks after Septicflesh destroyed Karmøygeddon metal festival once again, bring on the dark madness….

Everyone into Septicflesh has probably heard "Dantes Inferno" by now, the first single from "Codex Omega", which will be unleashed in its entirity September 1, 2017.This song is without a doubt the best teaser since releasing "Communion", with absolutely no disrespect to  "The Vampire Of Nazareth"(The Great Mass) or "Order Of Dracul"(Titan), both great songs, but this one takes it up a notch, simply magnificent. The disturbing start is just a warning of the massive inferno that is about to unfold, where Seth Siro Anton unveils his version of the story we all know so well, accompanied by a perfect blend of metal and symphony. Amazing!

And this is just the beginning….The perfect blend of metal and symphony continues from start to end, with dark growling, amazing clean vocals and massive choirs, where each chapter tells a different story, flawlessly directed and conducted  by the greek masters. Its impossible to name any favourites, put a knife to my throat andI would say "Portrait" and "Martyr" today, but probably two other songs tomorrow. Yes, its that good. Im almost speechless (well…), and after between 10 and 15 spinsI only hunger for more. Big words, I know, but deserved, so to hell with trying to stay calm, Septicflesh has once again delivered an album of timeless quality, hail thegreek hordes of the dark art.
